Brodex (eng. Wide ax) or Braideks (eng. Carpenter's ax) is a massive ax with 30 - 40 centimeter crescent edges. The blade was mounted on a meter or more ax handle, since it was planned to cut with both one and two hands. The two-handed version of this weapon is called the Danish axe. It was widely used by the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, the latter apparently adopted it from the Danes, who in the 9th century had been in England for a long time and mixed with the Anglo-Saxon population.
